Overview:

The 14U Bantam Division is a critical stage of development where athletes experience faster gameplay, advanced strategy, and for the first time, legal body checking under USA Hockey rules. This level emphasizes intensity, discipline, and leadership—preparing players for high school competition and beyond.

PJHA’s 14U program is designed to challenge players mentally and physically while reinforcing the values of respect, teamwork, and accountability.

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Proper body checking and angling techniques for safety and control

  • Advanced skating: stride power, edge control, transition speed

  • Tactical systems: breakouts, power plays, penalty kills, and defensive structure

  • Situational awareness, communication, and hockey IQ

  • Leadership development on and off the ice

 

Coaching:

Coach Chet Thomas leads with a balance of structure, intensity, and mentorship. Known for his motivational style and commitment to player growth, Coach Thomas emphasizes preparation, sportsmanship, and effort every shift.

He pushes players to take responsibility for their performance, build resilience, and play with confidence.

Expectations:

  • Players are expected to demonstrate consistent effort and discipline

  • Practice attendance is mandatory for development and game-time readiness

  • All players must maintain a team-first mentality and show respect toward coaches, officials, and opponents

Equipment:

Full protective gear is required, including certified shoulder pads and a neck guard rated for contact-level hockey. All equipment must be well-maintained throughout the season.
